All Clothing is handmade
My partner recently attended a business event where an entrepreneur casually stated that machines in factories make our clothes. Statements like that highlight just how disconnected people in 2025 are from the reality of making things by hand.
I’m not exempt from this disconnect—I’ve never hunted or butchered an animal. But with 25 years of sewing experience, I understand that capitalism has yet to fully extract humans from the equation. Sewing machines are simply power tools that automate hand sewing, but humans are still deeply involved in the process. They cut fabric using power tools, piece everything together, feed the fabric into the machine, and control the speed. To my knowledge, no machine has yet automated the tedious task of ripping out stitches. When mistakes happen, it’s still a person with a seam ripper, undoing each stitch by hand.
Don’t be fooled—every piece of clothing is handmade.
